I was introduced to an app, that dare I say, has been a game changer in my life. I am surrounded by people whom are avid readers. I have always wanted to be, but I am just not a fast reader so I only read books here and there. Welcome to Overdrive. #Overdrive is an app where you enter your local library card number and voilà, your libraries’ selection is pretty much available via your phone, tablet or laptop. For me, the best part is the availability of #audiobooks. I have listened to well over 30 books since mid-January, all while driving in my car. I just love it!
Overdrive is an app where you enter your local library card number and voilà, your libraries’ selection is pretty much available via your phone, tablet or laptop.
You can put books on hold just like you would at the library and when it becomes available, you get an email. They also offer a rather nice selection of magazines and a few newspapers. Did I say it is all free? I download the books to my phone as verses listening to them via streaming to save on my phone’s data. If you have blue tooth in your car, you are set.
You choose how many days you want to take the book out with 21 days being the max. Once the 21 days pass, it automatically takes the book back. If you haven’t finished it and choose to take it out a month or two later, it will remember what page you left off.
Download it now…it works on all the different devises seamlessly.
I am sharing Overdrive with everyone I know and I hope you do too. It is absolutely fabulous!
Joe Scarborough and Mika Brzezinski have been on my radar for years via my mom as she was a huge fan and would share what she learned from watching Morning Joe on a regular basis. I didn’t watch the show until prior to the last election cycle and then I was hooked. It doesn’t matter what side of the political fence you are on as they’ve got you covered. And their rotation of guests and experts is truly impressive.
So...my mom loves, loves, loves Morning Joe and had said to me on numerous occasions that she wanted to go to one of their shows when they were out of the NY studio. Fast forward to last week when she said they are doing a taping at Flannery’s Pub downtown Cleveland after the debate. I said, we are going!
Doors opened at 5:30. Our pick up time moved from 4:30 am to a little before 4:00 am. We were about the 25th in line and they supposedly had room for 30 right behind where the set was. In line by us was the cutest family with two young girls and the youngest was so darn excited to be there. How cool is that?! It was time to go in and we got to the door and they said the front part is full, find a place. I proceeded in and there was a round table in the front area that was directly behind their set. I asked if was available, for which it was. I grabbed it and the family with the two young girls sat with us. We honestly had the best seat in house and were treated like VIP's. We were pinching ourselves in excitement.
Those around us in line all said we didn’t want to be on TV, we were just excited to be there. Well…guess who was in the background between Joe and Mika every time the camera was on them? Me! A few of the segments you could also see my mom.
Their entire conversation over the course of three hours was not scripted. We could see the teleprompter and they only read when a segment started, when they were showing a graphic and when they were going to commercial.
May I just say, my mother was in her glory! During many of the show breaks, @Morning_Joe and @MorningMika walked around chatted, shook hands and took photos with those of us in the audience.
Mika is stunning and has such a lovely spirit about her and Joe, he is just a cool, smart and funny guy and so darn gracious. My mom shook hands with both of them and also got her picture with them…quite the thrill!
My mom wanted to get a “selfie” with @WillieGeist at a break which was to include me. Well…I am not a big selfie taker and didn’t have the camera ready, so here’s what we got. Willie could not have been kind while I fiddled around.
The girls were clamoring to get a photo with Willie and at the end of the show, he walked over to the table and they were beside themselves thrilled. Mika and Joe also posed with them as well. They told my mom, when they tell their friends, they will have no idea who they are, but they know as they have breakfast with them every morning…how cool?!
The girl's mother said we must be such nerds to be so excited...I accept that 100%!
We are still pinching ourselves a few days later as it was quite the experience. We thank the @Morning_Joe team for such a memorable and wonderful experience.
Because I love art...a Peter Max of Joe and Mika...
Full disclosure...I am someone that desires meditation to be part of my daily routine. Thanks to @Oprah and @DeepakChopra and their various 21-Day Meditation Experiences, I am closer to making that happen.
It is a lovely gift they offer which is wonderful for someone like me to begin the discipline of meditation...yet again. I always feel so much better after meditating...more peaceful.
The new series starts today...
Manifesting Grace through Gratitude.
"Grace is the benevolent, powerful, unwavering energy of the universe that guides you to the best version of yourself. When you shift into a state of gratitude, grace opens itself to you – it responds in turn by bringing you even more to be grateful for. Your day-to-day becomes increasingly effortless, more enjoyable, and more vibrant. It is a blissful, life-affirming state of being that is available to everyone, all the time."
Did I mention it is free? You have the ability to journal and connect with others going through the series along with you. And...there is an app. If you have an interest in meditating, why don't you join me and others around the world in this 21-Day Meditation Experience?
All of the past meditation series that they have offered are thoughtful and inspiring and are now available on the site for purchase.
Have you tried Siggi’s yogurt? It’s an Icelandic-style yogurt, skyr, pronounced “skeer” which is high protein and low sugar with all real ingredients. I was a Greek yogurt fan for well over 10 years before discovering Siggi's and now, I am officially hooked. I love the story, I love their mission and most of all, I love their yogurt
Fast Company wrote a great article on How Siggi’s Grew From A Nostalgic Experiment To An Icelandic Yogurt Empire. It's quite a story. Siggi, named after its creator, Siggi Hilmarrson, offers wonderful seasonal varieties and one of my favorites is their Strawberry & Basil. I wouldn't have necessarily thought to put that combination together over yogurt but it's so darn good. When the seasonal is not available, I add the strawberry and basil to their plain or vanilla yogurt. The plain is only 80 calories and has 15 grams of protein and the vanilla is 100 calories and has 14 grams of protein...all good.
I kick it up a notch by adding fresh strawberries and basil and a few grinds of fresh black pepper…oh my!
Another favorite, which is an odd combination, but it so works, is the Mango & Jalapeno.
@SiggiDairy recently introduced their 4% whole-milk skyr – love the fig and lemon zest. And on a silly note, I am a fan of the package shape. BTW...their packaging is designed to be recycled meaning, you remove the outer paper sleeve from the container...so well thought out.
For the kids in your life or the kid in you, their tubes are wonderful to grab the go. They also have a great recipe page. So...I would highly suggest finding Siggi’s yogurt at your local grocery and perhaps you will become hooked too. It's definitely worth trying...I don't think you will be disappointed.
